Today, Baptist Hospital of Cocke County is a licensed 74-bed general acute care facility which is part of the Baptist Health System of East Tennessee. Through its advanced diagnostic and innovative treatment capabilities, Baptist is dedicated to providing quality healthcare close to home. With a $4 million renovation project completed within the last three years, Baptist is a state-of-the-art facility with more than 50 full and part-time physicians. Services include: Emergency Care--The Emergency Department provides round-the-clock services. Equipped to handle both critical and cardiac care, the seven bed unit includes a trauma area. Maternal Infant Care Unit. The hospital Maternal/Infant Care Unit has four LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum) rooms and an observation room is also available when procedures including Cesarian sections are required. The unit also offers Lamaze classes to those delivering at BHCC. Surgery. With three operating suites and a ten-bed Day Surgery Unit, between 150 and 200 surgeries are performed at BHCC each month. Using laparoscopic equipment, physicians can perform a variety of laparoscopic procedures that allow for patients to have quicker recovery times, less scarring and shorter hospital stays. Critical Care Unit--The hospital's new Critical Care Unit allows for more specialty surgeries to be performed with less transfer of patients to medical facilities in larger cities. Imaging. BHCC's modern Imaging Department has both nuclear medicine and ultrasound equipment. Imaging provides a wide variety of procedures including needle biopsies, abscess drawings, biliary drawings and nephrostomy. The hospital's Imaging Department is among a select few facilities of its size with mammography accreditation. Pharmacy. With seven technicians, a pharmacist is on call 24-hours a day. The fully computerized pharmacy serves as a drug information center for physicians, nursing staff and area clinics. Physical Therapy. BHCC's Physical Therapy Department offers a wide range of services for both inpatients and outpatients. Treatments including traction, ultrasound, whirlpools and electric stimulation are designed to assist patients in regaining functional independence. Respiratory Care. The hospital's Respiratory Care Unit treats cardiopulmonary insufficiencies with state-of-the-art equipment including a pulmonary function testing machine. Therapist monitor heart and lung problems and administer oxygen as needed. Laboratory. Using the most modern instrumentation and equipment, BHCC's Laboratory performs more than 60,000 clinical assays annually. Center For Industrial Health. The hospital's Center for Industrial Health offers a unique program to help employers reduce job-related injuries and associated costs. The Center quickly handles employees' medical needs and provides a case management service to keep employers informed of their employees' progress. With a primary emphasis on prevention, corporate wellness/education programs include First Aid and CPR, Back Injury Prevention, Blood Pressure Screenings and Weight Reduction. Pre-placement physicals, drug testing, job-site analysis and OSHA compliance assistance are also available. Clinical Services. BHCC's Clinical Services is a provider-based Rural Health Clinic offering primary care to the underserved population. Patients receive quality medical care from a staff of physicians and family nurse practitioners. Baptist Convalescent Center. A 56-bed intermediate care facility adjacent to BHCC, the Center has been serving the needs of area residents for more than 20 years. Residents of the Center have full access to the wide range of services available at the hospital.
