INSTALLATION
(HOME)
The installation
of a wireless system can be very simple or very complicated, depending on the line of
site (LOS) situation in your area. The length of the cable needed to get from
your antenna to the computer can also be a problem, especially if you have a
weak signal in your area because of your distance from the tower. Here are the
first steps you should take to determine if the wireless system will work in
your location.
SITE EVALUATION
STEPS:
| 1) |
Look at the Planet
Connect coverage maps and see if your area is reached by the wireless
signal. |
| 2) |
Determine if
your site has clear line of site to the tower or antenna in your area. |
| 3)
|
Determine where
the antenna location would need to be at your site to get the line of site path.
|
| 4) |
Measure the
distance from the antenna to your computer to determine the amount of cable signal
loss your site would have. |
| 5) |
Determine the
type of mounting bracket or hardware needed to install the antenna. |
| 6) |

HOW
TO DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE CLEAR LINE OF SITE:
|
ANTENNA SIZES
There are three sizes of antennas that you can use at your
location. The one on the left is the smallest and works well near the tower
location. The antenna on the right is the largest and works well at any
distance.
